Sometimes, it feels crazy maintaining a positive attitude during this period of lockdown. With schools on hold and friends far away, boredom has become the popular language of most teens. I know we are young and energetic and always on the move, reason why we are finding it a bit difficult this season, however, we can still create a happy session out of this period.
Here are my top tips on how to stay busy and happy too during the lockdown.
READ A BOOK
This is the time you pick up a pick outside your school curriculum and read. You can go a step further by writing a review on the book. I gave one of my teens an assignment to finish up a particular book I gave her. Her assignment is to do chapter by chapter review and post on her social media page for her friends to learn. That way, she’s sharpening her reading and writing skills. If you have an app that allows you to read books in soft copies, do reach out to me so I’ll get some across to you.
KEEP A DIARY
This might just be the perfect time to keep a diary of your daily activities and happenings. You can start by documenting what you go through daily like new things you’ve learnt either as an individual or as a family.
If you have access to board games like Chess and scrabble, explore with them. You can do this with your parents and siblings. Asides board games, there are lots of games you can explore. Example, WHOT, hide and seek, tug of war, kite and flying, monopoly, etc.
EXPLORE YOUR CREATIVITY
This is the time to let your creative mind go wild. Do something creative by doing either of these:
• Compose songs. Record them with your phone.
• Draw. You can draw whatsoever catches your fancy
• Write stories. Just put on your imaginative cap and come up with a story that will captivate the audience. You can share with me when you are done.
• Learn a musical instrument
LEARN TO COOK NEW FOOD RECIPES
If you had an excuse for not joining in making meals for the family when schools were on session, I don’t think you have one now?
If anything, you have the perfect time to try out different food recipes. You can take over cooking of the meals from your parents. If you have access to YOUTUBE, learn how to cook different foods and come up with amazing dishes that the family can enjoy. Your parents will appreciate that too.
PRAY AND STUDY THE WORD OF GOD
Dedicate time to pray and study the bible. Pray for your parents, your friends, your country, and your future. Pray in the morning, noon and evening.
That you are staying indoors is not an excuse for you not to exercise. You need to take care of your mental and physical health by exercising. There are a lot of exercise to do within the confines of your compound. Examples of such include running, jogging, skipping, dancing, and a host of other things. This will help you keep fit and at the same time, create fun for you.
And please, rest well. You Don’t have to spend your entire day on social media you know? Take breaks in between.
You may not necessarily do all these in a day. Draw a schedule outlining what to do each day.
Trust me, when you engage in any of these, boredom will be far from your vocabulary.
So tell me, which of the following have you done this period?
Which one are you planning to do?
